  • Prof. Tapajyoti works at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, materials science, and device engineering.

  • His research focuses on scalable and cost-effective fabrication of active metasurfaces and multifunctional fibers using nano-imprinting and thermal drawing techniques.

  • His interests are in developing technologies for energy harvesting, sensing, healthcare, and smart textiles, with an emphasis on industrial relevance, economic impact, and societal benefit.

  • Prof. Varun's research interests span nonlinear optics, integrated micro- and nano-photonic devices, and nonlinear optical microscopy.

  • Prior to joining IISc, he worked as a Research Scientist at Agilent Research Laboratories, USA, where he focused on biomedical imaging technologies for cancer diagnostics and clinical translation.

  • He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, Irvine (UCI).

  • His work bridges fundamental photonics research and real-world applications in imaging, sensing, and integrated optical technologies.

  • Prof. Sanjiv works on various aspects of semiconductor physics and flexible electronics.

  • Some of the core areas are:

    • Reliability of Flexible Electronic Systems: Self healing of Open Circuit Faults (to improve the reliability of interconnects on flex), ESD protection.

    • Device Physics and Integrated Circuits: Device Engineering and Fabrication of Non-Crystalline Semiconductors.

    • Mechanics: Interplay between the Mechanics of Flexible Substrates and the Electronic Properties of Semiconductor Devices

    • Energy Harvesting: Particularly focused on applications in flexible electronics (e.g. polymer piezoelectric)

Sanjiv Sambandan

  • Prof. Jaya Prakash's research lies at the intersection of biomedical imaging, computational data analytics, and biomedical optics, with a focus on developing advanced sensing, diagnostic, and therapeutic technologies for healthcare applications.

  • His work spans optoacoustic imaging, medical image reconstruction, non-invasive glucose sensing, and the study of light–matter interactions for biomolecular sensing.

  • Prior to joining IISc, he led the Computational Data Analytics Group at the Institute for Biological and Medical Imaging, Helmholtz Zentrum Munich, Germany.
